Toowoomba Has Its Own Monopoly Board. So, How Do You Play the Property Game?

Toowoomba has officially made it onto the Monopoly board.

Not metaphorically. Literally.

For the first time, our region has its very own official Monopoly edition, swapping the familiar streets and stations for places that make Toowoomba, well… Toowoomba. And as people who spend our days talking about property, buying property, selling property and helping people make their next property move, you can probably imagine how much we like this.

Because while Monopoly might be a game, property is something we take pretty seriously.

Welcome to the Toowoomba board

The new Toowoomba Monopoly edition celebrates the places, businesses and landmarks that have shaped our region.

From local institutions with generations of history behind them to the places we visit, work, eat and spend our weekends, the board is a pretty good reminder of just how much there is to love about our corner of Queensland.

We think there’s something particularly fitting about Toowoomba getting its own property game. After all, we talk a lot about location in real estate. Things like:
Where do people want to live?
What makes one area different from another?
What gives a suburb its character?
What makes someone drive down a street and think, I could live here?

The Monopoly board might reduce that down to a few coloured squares, but in the real property game, there’s a little more to it.

The real property game looks a little different

Unfortunately, there’s no roll of the dice that lands you on your dream home. You can’t pick up a Chance card that tells you exactly when to sell. We’re yet to meet a bank that accepts colourful Monopoly money as a deposit (darn!). Real property comes with more decisions.

You need to know when to make a move and when to wait. You need to understand the market, recognise an opportunity and have the right people around the table, for example:

Sometimes you’re buying your first square.

Sometimes you’re adding another property to the portfolio.

Sometimes you’re selling one property to make your next move possible.

And sometimes life changes the board completely.
